One of the most well-known types of dental sedation is nitrous oxide, also called laughing gas, but did you know there are several other types of anesthetics your dentist can choose for your procedure? The type of sedation your dentist will recommend will be based on your level of anxiety, and your procedure.
Besides laughing gas, oral sedation can will leave the patient feeling relaxed, but also awake and aware during the appointment. Typically, the patient takes one or more pills as directed by the dentist prior to the appointment. In some cases, the dentist may want to monitor your vital signs during the procedure. You should arrange for a ride home after your procedure, and you will need to time to recover from the effects of the sedative.
